Ukraine’s Independence Day Brings an Inspiring Evening of Culture and Unity to California’s Capital.
On August 24, the center of Sacramento once again became a place of solidarity and cultural pride as the Ukrainian American House, in partnership with the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco, hosted a vibrant celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day.
This year’s gathering transformed downtown into a vibrant showcase of unity, resilience, and cultural pride, bringing together hundreds of community members, civic leaders, and friends of Ukraine for an extraordinary evening of music, tradition, and solidarity. The celebration reached a powerful crescendo as the State Capitol dome was illuminated in Ukraine’s national colors of yellow and blue.
Distinguished Guests
Alongside performances by local artists, the program welcomed a number of distinguished guests and leaders, including Major General Matthew P. Beevers of the California National Guard;
Dmytro Kushneruk, Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco; Karina Talamantes, Vice Mayor of Sacramento;
Mykhailo Tkach, renowned Ukrainian investigative journalist; Nadiia Khomaziuk, Executive Director of the U.S.–Ukraine Business Council, and Pastor Greg Fairrington of Destiny Church Rocklin, who led a touching prayer for Ukraine.
A special moment was the heartfelt speech of Ukrainian hero who is currently in the U.S. for prosthetics.
Guests were also deeply moved by a special video message from the President Zelenskyy of Ukraine, which underscored the nation’s resilience and gratitude for global support.
Music, Culture, and Celebration
The celebration featured authentic Ukrainian food, family-friendly activities, dance groups, and live performances.
The program reached its climax with the electrifying performance by KAZKA Band — a fan-favorite Ukrainian music group that filled the evening with energy and unforgettable emotions.
