When Women Support Women: Together Toward Healing, Confidence, and Freedom

For many women, especially those who have experienced difficult relationships, emotional abuse, isolation, or other life challenges, asking for help can be one of the hardest steps. Fear of judgment, misunderstanding, or criticism often prevents people from sharing their experiences and seeking the support they need.
Events like VILNA help create something different: a safe and welcoming space where women can connect, learn from one another, share experiences, and discover that they are not alone.
Throughout the evening, participants explored important topics including emotional dependency, toxic relationship patterns, guilt, fear, self-worth, healthy boundaries, and the importance of recognizing and trusting one’s own voice.
A special highlight of the event was a hands-on candle-making workshop, where participants created handmade candles while engaging in meaningful conversations and building new connections. The creative atmosphere encouraged reflection, openness, and mutual support.
More importantly, VILNA helped strengthen a growing community of women who are learning how to support one another through life’s challenges with empathy rather than judgment, understanding rather than criticism, and encouragement rather than silence.
This event was presented as part of Ukrainian American House’s Domestic Violence Prevention efforts, made possible through support from the California Department of Social Services (CDSS).
At Ukrainian American House, we believe that preventing domestic violence begins long before a crisis occurs. It starts with education, awareness, healthy relationships, emotional resilience, and strong support networks within the community.
Through programs like VILNA, we help women access knowledge, resources, and meaningful connections that contribute to healthier relationships, stronger families, and safer, more resilient communities.
