Understanding the Options — and Knowing What to Do Next

For many Ukrainians building a new life in the United States, immigration questions have become increasingly complex. Understanding available pathways, determining which options may apply to an individual situation, and knowing when and how to take action can be challenging without professional guidance.

To help our community navigate these questions, Ukrainian American House (UA House), in partnership with Gavrilov & Brooks, hosted an Immigration Pathways Workshop that brought together more than 60 members of the Ukrainian community.

The goal was not simply to provide general information. We wanted participants to better understand their options, have an opportunity to ask questions related to their individual circumstances, and leave the workshop with a clearer sense of what their next steps could be.

During the workshop, immigration attorney Halyna Dorris provided detailed information about immigration pathways and addressed questions from participants about their individual cases and circumstances.

The conversation also went beyond immigration law. Participants received useful information about their rights in the workplace, learned what steps they may be able to take if they are injured in a car accident, and discussed important legal planning topics, including wills and estate planning.

This broader approach reflects an important reality: building stability in the United States is not limited to immigration status alone. It also means understanding your rights, knowing where to seek professional help, and being prepared to protect yourself and your family.

From Information to Individual Action

For UA House, the workshop was only the first step.

Every immigration story is different. General information can help people understand the landscape, but making an informed decision often requires looking closely at an individual situation, history, documentation, goals, and available options.

That is why we have prepared a series of follow-up steps designed to help participants move from general understanding toward a more personalized plan of action.

A significant number of workshop attendees expressed interest in continuing this process through additional free consultations — both with the UA House team and with immigration attorney Halyna Dorris.

These follow-up conversations will give participants an opportunity to discuss their circumstances in greater detail, better understand potential pathways, identify questions that may require legal analysis, and determine what actions may make sense for them next.

Creating a Path Forward Together

The strong response to the workshop demonstrated how significant the need for reliable, understandable, and accessible legal and immigration information remains within our community.

More than 60 people came with different histories, circumstances, concerns, and questions. What united them was the desire to better understand their future in the United States and make informed decisions about the next chapter of their lives.

Our work does not end with one workshop.
