UA House Strengthens Community Safety Through Financial Stability & Personal Empowerment Workshop

Ukrainian American House hosted a community workshop focused on financial stability, financial literacy, and personal safety as part of the organization’s broader Violence Prevention Program.

The event was dedicated to showing participants that financial stability and personal safety are often deeply connected and can become two sides of the same coin.

It was created to help participants better understand how financial independence and responsible financial planning can play an important role not only in long-term stability, but also in personal wellbeing, confidence, and safety. One of the important aspects of violence prevention is helping individuals strengthen their financial independence and decision-making abilities, since financial vulnerability and dependence can often become factors that leave people trapped in unhealthy or abusive relationships. By improving financial literacy, planning skills, and long-term financial confidence, workshops like this help build a stronger foundation for personal stability, resilience, and healthier life choices.

The workshop’s featured speaker was Mykhailo Tkach, head of Sacramento-area branches of Ukrainian Federal Credit Union, who generously shared practical financial knowledge and guidance with attendees.

During the workshop, participants learned:
• how to build financial stability in the United States
• practical approaches to budgeting and financial planning
• strategies for saving and growing personal finances
• important financial habits for long-term security
• opportunities for responsible financial management and future planning

One of the key messages of the event was that financial stability is deeply connected to personal independence and safety. In many situations, financial vulnerability can become one of the factors that leaves individuals dependent on unhealthy or abusive relationships. Helping people strengthen their financial confidence and decision-making abilities can therefore become an important preventive step toward building safer and healthier lives.

A special thank you to Ukrainian Federal Credit Union for generously providing their venue for this workshop. Holding the event within the environment of a trusted financial institution helped create a meaningful and practical atmosphere that naturally immersed participants in the topic of financial responsibility, stability, and long-term planning.

Through workshops like this, Ukrainian American House continues creating educational and supportive spaces where community members can gain practical tools, strengthen resilience, and improve their quality of life.

This workshop is part of a larger series of community events and educational initiatives being implemented through UA House’s Violence Prevention Program, in partnership with CDSS, focused on prevention through education, empowerment, emotional support, and stronger community connection.
