UA House Welcomes Hashim Wahdatyar for Partnership Meeting Supporting Ukrainian Families in Sacramento

Today, UA House Executive Director met with Hashim Wahdatyar, Program Lead at UC San Diego, as part of our growing partnership to support Ukrainian families who have arrived in the United States within the last five years.

This collaboration is connected to the RSI program, which focuses on helping students and their parents navigate educational opportunities, strengthen family well-being, and access conflict resolution support. The program is designed to ensure that children and parents receive timely assistance and are connected to social services that can help them adapt more quickly to life in the United States and move toward long-term stability and financial independence.

During Hashim’s visit to Sacramento, a partner meeting was held with participation from more than 10 organizations serving refugee and immigrant families in the region, including families from Afghanistan and other countries. The discussion highlighted the many challenges newly arrived families face as they rebuild their lives in a new environment. These challenges are real and often complex, which makes strong community partnerships especially important.

Thanks to the support of organizations such as UC San Diego, and their meaningful contribution to the development and implementation of programs for different newcomer communities, UA House is able to continue providing valuable support to Ukrainian families in Sacramento.

We are also grateful that Hashim is planning to attend our upcoming community event this Friday at Veterans Memorial Park – North. The event will bring families together for connection, discussion, and activities for children. Our goal is to create a welcoming and comfortable space where parents and children can spend time together, discuss important topics, share experiences, and strengthen the bonds of the Ukrainian community in Sacramento.

Hashim has kindly agreed to meet Ukrainian families and say a few words about the importance of peace in the family as the foundation for overcoming challenges and building a strong future.

Hashim Wahdatyar brings over 15 years of international experience working with leading organizations across multiple regions. He has served as a spokesperson for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Afghanistan, held program leadership roles focused on Afghanistan and neighboring countries, managed regional initiatives for the Middle East and South Asia, and served as Program Director at the Institute of Current World Affairs in Washington, DC. He currently supports programs focused on refugee education and youth development.

UA House remains committed to building partnerships like this to help newcomer families feel supported, connected, and empowered as they begin a new chapter in the United States.
