Children Discovered Their Potential at UA House Summer Camp

As summer drew to a close and excitement for the new school year began to build, UA House welcomed children to Discover Your Potential, a two-week educational and enrichment camp held from August 17–31 as part of the YES – Youth Engagement for Success initiative.
Every day, participants gathered in the creative space at UA House to discover more about themselves, explore the world around them, develop new skills, and build meaningful friendships in a safe and encouraging environment.
The camp was designed to help children, especially those from families who have recently arrived in the United States, strengthen their confidence, improve communication skills, and better navigate their new environment. This educational program was made possible in part through the support of RSI, whose contribution helped expand opportunities for youth adaptation and engagement.
Throughout the program, children explored topics that are essential for both personal growth and successful integration. They learned about personality, emotions, self-expression, friendship, teamwork, and effective communication. Through interactive activities, discussions, and creative projects, participants gained a deeper understanding of themselves while learning how to build healthy relationships with others.
One of the highlights of the camp was an engaging career exploration program. Children discovered a wide variety of professions, learned about different career paths, and completed activities designed to identify careers that best match their interests and personal strengths.
Learning extended far beyond the classroom through several educational field trips. During a visit to a local fire station, participants met firefighters and paramedics, learned about their daily responsibilities, explored emergency equipment, and gained a greater appreciation for these vital community professions. Additional excursions to the local zoo and library encouraged curiosity, inspired a love of learning, and demonstrated how educational experiences can be found throughout the community.
More than just a summer camp, Discover Your Potential became a place where children felt welcomed, encouraged, and inspired. Over two unforgettable weeks, they built confidence, discovered new interests, strengthened friendships, and created memories that will stay with them long after the summer ends.
UA House is grateful to every family who entrusted us with their children, to our dedicated staff and volunteers, and to RCI for supporting this meaningful initiative. Together, we continue creating opportunities that help young people grow, connect, and succeed in their new community.
